Ride: Participants start the R3 Triathlon at the East Jordan Tourist Park on the shores of Lake Charlevoix. The race starts with a gorgeous 19 or 9 mile road bike ride with scenic views of farmland, countryside and Lake Charlevoix to finish the ride at the Tourist Park.

Run: Participants run 2.3 miles on a scenic trail through Little Traverse Conservancy land along the pristine Jordan River to their watercraft at the Rogers Bridge Jordan River Access site.

River: Participants paddle 2.7 miles down the Jordan River, under the East Jordan bridge and into Lake Charlevoix. Paddlers can use a kayak, canoe or stand up paddle board for this segment. Racers finish on the beach of Lake Charlevoix at the Tourist Park.

Race Start:

9 am from the East Jordan Tourist Park

Race Categories & Costs:

You may enter and race as an individual or as a team. 

INDIVIDUAL RACERS - Registration is $85, which includes entry for one athlete, event shirt, and use of timing chip.  Individual participants will complete the Bike, Run and Paddle segments of the race.

TEAM RACING - Registration is $105 for teams of two or three which includes shirts for participants, team entry and the use of timing chips.

Are you a beginner or overwhelmed about completing the R3 Adventure Tri by yourself? Or, maybe you just want an excuse to hang out and exercise with your friends! You may race in teams of 2 or 3.   Due to transition times, it is recommended for teams of 2 that one person completes the bike portion and the other person does the run and the paddle.  Team racers will not be sorted and given awards based on age or gender. 

No tandem bikes or kayak categories available.

SPECTATORS - There is no entry fee for spectators. Please bring friends and family to cheer you on! 

REFUNDS - We do not provide refunds for cancellations. 

 Mandatory Athlete Meeting:

8:45 am before the race in the Tourist Park beach cabin.

Parking:

Racers and spectators will have limited parking at the East Jordan Tourist Park, which hosts the start, finish, and after party! The primary parking for the day of the event will be at the boat launch parking near the tennis/basketball courts.

Packet Pick Up & Registration: 

Please pick up registration packets and complimentary event t-shirts on Friday, June 22nd between 4pm - 8pm at the East Jordan Tourist Park.

Staging:

Please plan on staging your boats Friday from 4pm - 8pm before or after you pick up your  race packet. Boats will be staged at the Rogers Bridge DNR Jordan River access site. An onsite overnight guard will be monitoring boats. Bicycles will be staged at the race start, the East Jordan Tourist Park on the morning of the race. Participants will also have running shoes staged at the Tourist Park main race hub. Racers will have the option of leaving their running shoes at the kayak launch which will be ferried back to the finish line or they may choose to wear their shoes on the river.  

Start & Finish Line:

The R3 races starts and finishes at the East Jordan Tourist Park. There is an additional transition hub at the Jordan River Rogers Bridge access site.

Event Rules:

-All participants must provide their own equipment or secure their own rentals for the race.

-Participants must wear a bicycle helmet for the bike segment and a life vest on the river paddle segment of the race.

-Use appropriate trash receptacles and do not litter on the course.

Equipment Sales & Rental:

Jordan Valley Outfitters in East Jordan is providing a wonderful discount on kayak rentals. They also have paddle boards. They will stage your boats and pick them up! Call them and mention you are with the R3 Triathlon to receive your discount!  Jordan Valley Outfitters - (231) 536-0006.

Extreme Weather plan:

-The race will be delayed in 15 minute increments due to extreme or life threatening weather. Please check our facebook page or be in the Tourist Park building for updates.

-The race will proceed in rain or cold weather so please be prepared for the Northern Michigan weather.

Awards:

The top three male and female overall winners will receive a trophy. Trophies are also awarded to the top three finishers in each age group in the 19 mile. One trophy will be awarded to the overall winner of the 19 mile team, 9 mile team and overall SUP finisher.


Lodging:

-The East Jordan Tourist Park has tent and RV sites as well as a few rustic cabins.  The R3 race starts and ends at the Tourist Park beach.  You can stay onsite and walk to the race in the morning! Call 231-536-2561 to book now, they have sites held for racers only until June 1st. Mention you are a part of the R3 Triathlon to gain access to reserved sites and receive a 30% discount on your stay (limited quantity, while sites are available)!  The link below will allow you to see the tourist park page, but you will need to call to book.
